BARbarians vs The Flying Incorporated Bz-Cows

BAR: Mur & O-Neil
BzInc: Admirarch & Freibier
duration: 30 minutes
score: 3:4 for bar

english: nasty corner, good game.

Unnamed Barbaric Matches

There are several unnamed barbaric matches to report, so here goes:

Untamed: Koziol & karlik25
Bzi: Admirarch & SportChick
Duration: 30
Result: 7-1 for bzi

Koziol and karlik played extremely well together. I finally had to put karlik on hunt, she was sniping me so much! At one point, she went NR was she was right behind Admirarch and he was about to cap...talk about bad timing!

Bar: O-Neil, Menotume, Mur, kierra
Bzi: Admirarch, Thonolan, jh, SC
Duration: Full length (30)
Server: dub
Result: 5-1 for bzi

At first it was 3v3 while SC finished her lunch. Less than a minute after the match started, she and kierra were able to jump in. Midway through the match, Admi's lag spiked enough that he retired and kierra jumped back out. All in all, another good one.

Bar: MnMs (Candybars)
Bzi: jh and SC
Duration: 15
Server: dub
Result: 3-1

This match was actually very close. It was 1-1 throughout most of the match. In the last minutes, bzi was able to cap an extra one or two to claim the victory.

Bar: Candybars
bzi: Bernie and essy
Duration: full length
Server: proxs
Result: 7-5 bzi

After waiting 10 minutes for Bernie to finish eating, and another 2 for essy to finish her 1v1, and aother 5 for menotume to finish self-capping, and other 3 for Mur to wake up, we finally got started. For the final bar-bzi rematch, we made the move to proxs. Considering that 3 out of 4 players are US-based, it was a smart thing to do. Suddenly, the candybars were much more hittable..but so was I. The map had an evil collection of buildings and pyramids (evil but very fun!). Bernie positively rocked! Again, the match was extremely close. It really wasn't decided until the last 90 seconds. It had actually started out as "The BZI Show", but after a short break midmatch (the "highlight"), BaR staged a serious comeback that nearly tipped the scales the other way. The highlight of the match was when menotume dodged Bernie's bullets (or so he said) with such gusto that he dumped a glass of water (again, so he said) all over his keyboard. We then enjoyed a short break while he did his best to sop up the mess, dry out his mouse and find an alternate mousepad (or so he says). Note: Bzi has heard rumors that he used the time out to research specific tactics for that exact map from experts in the field of bz, thereby planning to turn the tables and steal bzi's rightfully earned victory. But of course, those are merely rumours.

Barbarians Identity crisis

BZI: SportChick, [dmp] and our secret silent cheerer, jh^
BAR: menotume, qdot
Special Guest: my dog got no nose
Duration: A real match, 30 mins
Map: Buildings at random. Relatively open field
Score: 5-4 (we won)

The word "barbarian" generally refers to an uncivilized, uncultured person [Wikipedia]. In BZFlag one way of being uncivilized is to teamkill. But could it be, Barbarians suffers from a identity crisis? Again, QDot had no tk's and only their tribeleader was able to dig up a single teamkill in 30 minutes.

But how can this be? Let's see. Acording to their homepage, conan is the real Barbarian leader. But, conan left (and is now considered easy kill)! No wonder they got problems. I wonder how menotume feels about this, after all, he is the formal leader. But looking at the Barbarians, it wouldnt surprise me if they are hard to reason with. Poor poor menotume.

BaR Tragedy

bar: qd & mur
bzi: dmp & essy
duration: 15
result: bad guys win, 3-0

QD and Mur played quite well by most standards, but by BaR standards, one has to wonder how long until they get canned. Mur and QD, both on probation for lack of tks in previous matches got a total of 1 (Mur was the lucky guy). QD had a abominable 0 tks. dmp and essy did their best to create tk opportunities, but the errant barbarians simply didn't take the hint!

Matching with Candy

Today, we had another match with candy-coated chocolate. Sadly, it was a tough pill to swallow, as they had apparently hidden something rather sour in that candy... (j/k, barbies)

Bzi: SC & [dmp]|Admi (sub with about 10 minutes remaining)
Candies: Mur & meno
Duration: 30
Result: 7-5

BaR played with a vengeance. Mur was clearly getting me back for all those tks on dub public! It was a hard fought battle, but clearly belonged to BaR. I'd like to have those last moments in front of our base back - it might have been 7-6 but for my silliness and the candies' great shooting.

P.S. Mur just pointed out to me that he had an stunning (for him) 3 tks this match. Perhaps he is making a bit to retain his barmanship? To be continued...

Another BaR Match

BaR: CapN & Murrrrrr
Bzi: Admir & essy
Length: 15 minutes
Result: 1-1 tie
Map: (same as previous match with CapN & menotume)...interesting assortment of buildings from one corner of the base nearly to the middle

As the score shows, it was a close, even matchup. At one point I thought we might even end up with a 0-0 tie. Admir was his normal, amazing self. BaR played a very nice match with great teamplay. Sadly, Mur's barmanship may be in jeopardy after yet another match with completely insufficient & an un-BaR-like lack of tks.

Three barbarians matches

BZI: Admirarch, Sportchick
BAR: Menotume, CapN
BaR win 6-4
BZI win 7-2
BZI win 7-2

The first two of these matches were played yesterday and so my memory of them is somewhat sketchy.

In the first BaR got off to a good start and led all the way so the match was probably less close than it seems from just looking at the score.

The second and third, despite featuring the same players, went completely the other way. Despite kills being fairly similar between the teams we employed the tried and tested "Admir hides in the corner having fun with both opponents whilst SC grabs their flag" strategy and managed to comfortably outscore them on both occasions.

BAR x 2

bzi: admi & essy
bar: kierra & mur
length: 30
final: bzi wins 8:0
map: interest set of buildings in the middle, lined with roses, thorns and prone to lots of ricos and tks.

Despite Mur & k's excellent playing, Bzi managed the victory on this one. Mur had an almost passable 3 tks.

bzi & bar: same teams as in the previous match
length: 15
final: bzi wins 4-1
map: same

Tried a slightly shorter version of the previous match, delayed somewhat when SC discovered that her space bar (aka fire key) had cracked and a jagged piece was poking her in the finger. Luckily, mozul-gyver had some tape on hand, so after a small delay, she was able to match. Mur, despite being on probation, didn't manage a single tk the entire match. Admir, essy & kierra, on the other hand, all did quite well in that regard. Bar should be embarrassed to have been shown up by another team in its favorite category!

The Barbarians loss (5-2)

15 mins match ([dmp], Admirarch) against BaR (O-Niel, Mur). Because of Admirs lag trouble we tried proxs. The game was completed without any unexpected problem - rather than the well playing BaRs.

I need to play more ducati style. I cant use ricos nor hit people with "only" two shots (when coming from hepcats 3). Too bad ducati public servers are pretty dead.

Thanks for the game.

Bar vs BZi

Bar: Mur, Menotume (m&m, but not quite)
BZi: Bernie and Sweating Bullets
15 minute match
Score: 2:1 Bar with both flags in the middle

This was a 15 minute match on account of the following
1. Sleepy Bernie
2. Impending delivery of pizza from pizza hut

The 15 minutes wooshed past, and 2:48 to go score was 1:1 and BZi had a fair chance to capture, but things went south for us from there and in spite of some last minute heriocs, the tying cap was not to be. Fun as always, Bernie played rather well.

Players for Bar : Capn, mistake and menotume score : 7
Players for BZ-Inc.: Admirarch, Bernie and Thonolan score : 2

Well played from BAR, no chance for us to be a effective opponent. BAR getting bored at least and practice teamkills ;) . Capn like usual an awesome flagrunner.

BaRely a pun

BZ-incorporated: Admirarch, Bernie
Visigoths: menotume, mistake
BZI win 7-4
30 minute match

As any invading Barbarian army will tell you the most important thing to do is to take hold of the empire's political centre. Not only is there generally more looting and pillaging to be done you cripple the empire's ability to respond to further attacks. Now as can clearly be seen meno and mistake don't have a capital and so were bound to struggle.

As seems to be the general trend in matches I report, BZI got out to a great start with four unanswered captures inside the first 15 minutes and things were looking comfortable only to suddenly collapse quite horribly. Within a scant few minutes the score was back to 4-3 and the barbarians were looking rampant, bzi ruffled and the match in doubt. Fortunately we recovered and managed to pull away to 7-4 and a probably deserved victory.

Special guest reporter: Mistake!

match: Bar vs. Inkies
Bar: Meno + Mistake
BZI: Admir + Thono
score: Bzi wins 6-4
weather: heavy snow and blizzard storm
Full of luck, and low on tk,
the Barbarians had no problems
with the incers on their way.

However as sometimes happens,
And with a bad consience about his spawns
Mistake's luck started to lacken.

The end result tells it clear
Luck isn't enough,
and we werent to tough
though next time we'll play more rough.

BARBIES BRUISE BERNIE

Well, this match report was supposed to have been written by none other than beARTniebee, but somehow, he seems to have been bumped, beaten, bruised and berated by Bar to such an extent that he was apparently incapable of writing a simple match report.

beautiful bzis: BeARTrnie & SC
brutal bars: mistake & kierra|menotume
brutes won 5:4
match length: 30
weather: light and breezy for the first 1/2 of the match, odd sickeningly sweet odor (could that be melting chocolate?!) during the second 1/2

The heros of the story did well in the first 1/2 of the match, taking a 4-2 lead. However, suddenly bar started tossing candy out on the field, which clogged up our treads! Despite the bzi-favorable map, and beARTnie's skillful driving and shooting, the brutes managed to tie the game. With only a minute or so left, they dashed the hopes of the heros and the crowd by capping their fifth. Their performance, on BAR standards, was abominable. Only 2 tks a piece. One must wonder how long until BAR either loses the TK title or has a wholesale housecleaning!

ReReMatch: Bar vs BZi

BZi: SportChick, Sweating Bullets
BaR: mistake, menotume

Resistance was very dour
Score was seven - four
After much blood and gore
This match's lore -
is that for 29:50 mistake had meno 8-0 and then in the very end, he blew it, and it became 8-1. Menotume pulled one off at the death. BZi suspects there might have been a kink in the space time continuum had 8-0 happened.

Entertaining game!

ReMatch: Bar

bzi: Sweaty & SC
bar: M&M (meano and mist aka CandyBars)
Length: 30
Weather: alternating between huge gusts of wind and deadly still
The Candy won 5:2

After QD and Mur failed to meet their 5 TK quota in the previous match, they were subbed out for TK happy M&Ms. Notwithstanding the score, the Bzis had another moral victory. Candies had to traipse down the length of the field not once, twice or even thrice to get their first cap. Four times, the barbies had to drag that flag all the way down the field...One has to wonder if it gets heavy after a while. Multiple times, the flags were fought over quite desperately. As always, quite fun!

Match Report: BaR v. BZi

BaR vs BZi
Sweaty made a decidedly weak attempt at the pwnage song
We will we will pwn you
failing that: We will we will pwn your dog
failing even that: We will we will pwn your cat

At the end of 30 minutes, with the scoreline reading 8-4 in favour of BaR, BZi had to settle for cookies. So I guess the Barbies can enjoy the ownership of their cats and dogs for another day.

Bar was represented by Mur, quantumdot and kierra
BZi had dmp, SportChick and Sweating Bullets

Another match against BaR

BZI: Admirarch, Bernie, Sportchick
BaR: menotume, Mur, kierra| sub quantumdot (15)
We win 7-3
30 minute match
Weather: Sunny, as usual

kierra leaves: BaR fall to pieces

It was decided that the person to write this report would be the first one to be so foolish as to get shot by menotume and so, with a mere 20 seconds on the clock my inner poet soul stirred in my breast at the thought of mangling another match report and plunged me straight into an easy ricochet off the wall.

The match then proceded rather evenly for 15 minutes until the turning point point of the match, and I must leave it to my readers to infer causality or dismiss as mere coincidence, when kierra was substituted for quantum dot. From this point BZI romped home in rather uncharacteristically glorious fashion. BaR on the other hand became a little jaded, their glowing orbs of death seemed slightly dimmer than before, slightly less zip in their psychotic zigging and zagging and most significantly being totally outclassed on the tk front.

The Barbarians! / The Impress-Girl-Ritual cheat!

I'm sure you're all (guys, at least) familiar with this situation: You're doing good at something, and the girls are impressed. You feel like you're on the top of the world. They can sent everything against you, it cannot hurt you. You're on a roll.

Yeah, its a little secret. When girls are around, guys needs to impress them. I'm not sure why, and its sure isn't always a good idea, but that's what guys do. Girls/woman give birth, and that is something we cannot compare to. So we spend our days to impress them - when we can.

And sometimes we make mistakes. I know its hard to believe, but we actually do that. Impressing girls and making a mistake does not mix, so we look like fools (yep, that's our secret backup plan). So, the flow is basically: try to impress, add mistake, and voila, you lost. Game over.

The Barbarians knows this far too well.

We were are, in a typical matching situation. BZI (me. SportChick) vs BAR (Kierra, QDot) and audience (with more girls).

We start, we play. I try to impress them girls, as the guy I am. And we're doing good. Actually, we're wining. 3-1 and plenty of time left.

And then it happens. They remove a girl, kierra, which is a blow towards my impress-girl-ritual.. And then, the lethal move, they add... mistake.

Its over. I cant help it. Game over is already flashing on my screen. Even my BZFlag knows its impossible to get out of this with my pride intact. I look something like a chicken in a lion suit inside my tank, which isn't exactly the macho look i wanted, and I'm fairly sure that only a small niche on the internet that finds this attracting. And the scores slowly adjusts. We lose. 5-4.

Nevertheless, however unfair that move was, the match was fun.

But I cannot help to ask. Why didn't this influence BAR. Either the praticed this a lot to be immune to the impress-girl-ritual. Or.. they are not men. And, as a guy, doing impress-girl-rituals, I can assure you, they are not female either. So what are they? And is that cheating?

Facts:
2006-08-15 23:36:17 The Barbarians vs. Bz-Incorporated (5:4) 30m
BZI: Me, SportChick
BAR: QDot, Kierra/Mistake

We played good. But mistake/qdot is a good combination and was hard to fight against. However it was fun. Until 5 mins before end, we did pretty well. However they got a 4-4 score and was close at getting the 5th. It seems that made us (both) lose our focus, which probably made it a bit easier to get the last one. But that is what happens.

Match Report: BAR v. BZI

Bzi: Tante, Bernie, SC
BAR: QD, Foo and ATG
Length: 30 exciting minutes
Score: BAR wins 6:3
This was a really great match, and much closer than the score indicates! We have several very very long battles. BZi was down at one point 4-0 (or was it 5-0?). Anyway, it was great fun (as always)!

On a side note, perhaps QD should be removed from BAR (aka TiKiBar) - he hadn't a single tk!! (Which, I think, is against their bylaws!)

8 matches today!

Are you exhausted?! I am! And I barely played compared to some of you! We played 8 matches today (so far) - 4 against Untamed and 4 against BAR. We had a nice assortment of players today - Admir, Bernie, [dmp], jh^, KyleH, SportChick, Tante Horst and Thonolan all made a showing today! 'Twas lots of fun! Good job everyone! Keep up the good work!

Match Report: Bar

BZI: Me, [dmp]
BaR: The same irritating bunch as the previous match (Meno and Mistake)
Draw 6-6
30 minutes

Back and forth, too and fro, up and down and all sorts of other cliches used by sporting commentators. We should really have won this one, but such is bzflag. It's been a while since this happened so I can't really remember much about it

BZI: Me, Bernie
BaR: Them again
Draw 2-2
15 minutes

Same map, same opponents, same result. Sportchick was off cooking so Bernie was promptly summoned from the silly jumping place. Another match where we squandered a lead but it was a fairly even one and probably a fair result.

BZI: Me, Sportchick
BaR: Sensing a pattern here?
We win 3-1
15 minutes

New map with an evil little corner. A fairly comfortable match, bar are probably getting tired and can't match our teamwork.

This was billed as a grudge (tie breaker) match, since so many of our results against BAR were ties today (or very close). I'm not sure how many times the map was changed to find a "non-tie" map, but the one we got was kind of nice, though more open than ~I~ like it.

Admir was his normal brilliant self. I alternated between making some decent shots to missing everything within range. All in all, we had a great time!!

2006-08-13 01:26:25 The Barbarians vs. Bz-Incorporated (6:5) 30m
Bzi: Me, SportChick
Bar: Menotume and Mistake - M&Ms :)

SportChick had a slow start but did VERY well after 15 mins. She did some pretty amazing stuff, which is hard considering the opponent :).

However, the outcome dosnt show how even and exciting it is. This is why I play BZFlag. This is why I feel i'm getting too old. Too even, too exciting, two very fine opponents.
