The Barons gave us a wake-up call

Late Saturday night / early Sunday, SportChick and Dervish matched up with orbit and Skit from The Barons. It was a grueling, humbling match for Dervish, being out of the CTF league for such a long time, but SportChick seemed to hold her own pretty well. We came out with a loss of 4 to 0.

Both of us were getting worked over pretty well by cross-fire from the two Barrons, especially when caught alone. However, orbit and Skit are not invincible. It took Dervish a while to warm up, coming close to a flag cap once. We simply couldn't stop The Barons for capping; we could only slow them down a bit.

Dervish just came from a couple hours of play on silvercat CTF. Switching modes from all flags and jumping to Ducati-style wasn't easy. Dervish had his BZFlag GUI set up for jumping maneuvers, not full-size radar, but he will change this for the next match. SportChick was nice enough not to berate Dervish for the poor performance, since after all, BZ-Inc is a learning team. He'll need a lot of practice to shake off the rust. :)

It has come to my attention that we probably need some new titles.

BZI: Admirarch, Sportchick
Barons: the skorbit
Barons win 7-2 (30), 5-1 (15)

Both of these matches involved the skorbit, in characteristic fashion, getting off to a racing start and putting in four quick captures before bzi could find their bearings. The difference being that in the second match this left the match pretty much over and in the first there was a good amount of time left to have some fun. The score hit 5-2 and things were starting to click for us but we lost a couple of close maneuvers and couldn't actually threaten to win it.

All in all these were good fun matches.

Barons and saints

It's come to my attention that SNT is a silly name, you can't pronounce it and it certainly isn't a word. As such I feel it's my public duty to, at least for the duration of this post, refer to them as Shiny And Irritating New Tanks, or Saints. This is a word, can be pronounced and fits in nicely with a medieval theme I've got going in this post.

First up, Barons!

BZI: Admirarch, Sweating bullets
Barons: The orbitskit gestalt
Barons win 10-1 then 10-0
Both 30 minute matches

The first match we really didn't manage to put up a fight, just continuously run in caps until the barons got bored and allowed us to slip in for one
The second match we put up a good fight for the first ten minutes though the barons were still in control. Beyond this point it was much the same as the first though without us earning a consolation cap which would have been more deserved this time.

Saints: hiya, orange
BZI: Admirarch, Sweating Bullets
BZI win 2-1
15 minute match

SNT got off to a quick start with a good run poorly defended against leading to an early capture and were looking in control after 5 minutes but some intense fighting somehow resulted in bzi sneaking a capture and getting our noses back into the match. We pressed on the offensive and came very close capping with their flag sitting next to a pyramid in front of our base for a long time but some great defense lead to SNT rescuing it and with only a few minutes left a draw looked likely. Both sides refused to settle for this and went on the offensive leading to a collision of flag runners in a match deciding 2v2 conflict in the middle. BZI emerged victorious and managed to press home for a capture with 25 seconds left and a hard fought victory.

For completeness

BZI: Admirarch, Sweating bullets
Barons: The orbitskit
Barons win 11-2
30 minute match

BZI: Admirarch, Sweating bullets
Zees: Ep, longhair
BZI win 8-1
30 minute match

It's so nice shooting normal people after those barons.

Match 1: BZI vs Barons

BZI: Admir, SB
Barons: orbit, skit
Barons win 9-3
30 minute match

Excuses:
I was tired after getting back from work.
I kept trying to call orbit mikkel and got confused.
gn00bie had a flat tire.
The moons of jupiter blocked our gunsights (All of them!)
Sportchick turned up halfway through and distracted us.
Heisenberg's uncertainty principle.
It wasn't a full moon.
They were, quite treacherously and unfairly, much better than us.

Under such situations it is plain bzi's defeat was inevitable forgivable and, as usual, not detracting from our overall and far reaching moral victory.

Two Barons Matches

1st match:
Barons: Orbel, skit
BZI: Sportchick, Admirarch
Barons win 8-1

This started fairly badly with the barons racing away to a 4-0 lead. Some brief hope of bzi heroics was inspired by a cap to make it 4-1 but this was quickly squashed by superior baron killing power.

2nd match:
Barons: skit, Mikkit
BZI: Sportchick, Admirarch
Barons win 7-0

Pretty much all barons, neither incer really managing to get going well enough to stop the rot. Eventually the barons seemed to get a bit tired of the flag and settled for just killing everything in sight thus the reasonably low score.

Story of a match that was not to be

BZi challenges The Barons to a match
But the Red one says there is a catch
"I am very tired,
And my life is very mired."

BZi calls the red baron's bluff
and he gets on his tricyle in a huff
he proceeds to pedal hard
but BZi is on the guard

They stop him in his tracks
And cannot be bribed with snacks
The sister brigade came on their choppers
and put TrB in the hopper

In a fit of angst and fear
without TRB anywhere near
the barons known at skit and kate
claimed they had no mate

they ran away to match on GU
claiming they never knew
Our attempt to match came a cropper
though it is not entirely proper

Disclaimer: SportChick is responsible for at least half of this

Barons Matches

I'm rather tired so I'll try come back and add extraneous things like flowery vocabulary, humour and complete sentences later

Barons: TrB, RB2
BZI: Admirarch, [dmp]
Barons win 6-1
30 minute match

I was rubbish, dmp was good, barons were excellent. We got outplayed.

Barons: TrB, RB2
BZI: Admirarch, Sportchick
Barons win 3-0
15 minute match

We fought well in this one despite being comprehensively outkilled and the 3-0 scoreline is a bit harsh. Barons are once again excellent though.
