An Historic Match (and a Fittingly Close One)
In Ducati news today, Bz-Incorporated and TfC played an historic match - the first EVER seasonal ladder match for the ducati league. Both teams will go down in history for this marked battle. Fittingly, the match was remarkably close (the deciding cap made with less than 20 seconds to play).
[insert rant]But since I have the soapbox, I'd like to rant a bit before giving the specific details. Special thanks goes to two members of the ducati community - mistake and [dmp]. They each put in selfless hours to create the ladder coding. mistake did all of the initial coding and then passed the work on. Since the underlying code had changed from what mistake originally worked on, [dmp] had the task of updating mistake's coding to match the underlying code, integrate it fully into the bzleague project and test it to death to ensure it wouldn't create any problems on the live site. Both of these players (and very talented programmers) deserve our thanks and our congratulations![/rant]
So Bz-Incorporated was insistent that it should be able to play the first ladder match, so we went hunting for a suitable opponent. TfC was clearly it (after all, THEY had TWO players online at one time). Pommes and Bratwurst proved to be a very tough duo.
TfC managed to cap the first one fairly quickly. 1-0 TfC. After several long hard battles on the corners, Bz-Inc finally managed its own cap. Tied 1-1. Spurred on by its cap, Bz-Inc grabbed another rather quickly, which TfC then tied. 2-2. Finally, there was a particularly long battle when Bz-Inc managed to get TfC's flag down by its base. After SC managed to tk [dmp] (ugh! not again!), it looked like TfC might be able to run the flag back home. But some nice spawns and hard work allowed Bz-Incorporated to cap the flag with under 20 seconds remaining.
The teamplay of both teams was superb ([dmp] you rock!) and the match had many hard-fought battles. The final result could have just as easily been a tie or 3-2 TfC.

Map: a beautiful collection of buildings right down the middle, creating some amazing rico opportunities (or, alternatively, "Darn! I never saw that one coming!")
